Dalai Lama & Boca Juniors (April 30, 2006)

We have arrived in Buenos Aires!  After a very long flight, and stops in Newark and Houston, we´re finally here -  the first stop of our journey. Adam met us at the airport, and while we were outside waiting for the driver to bring the car around, the Dalai Lama walked out of the airport and into a mortorcade. What an auspicious way to start our trip!  We passed his car a few times on the highway, and once we waved at him and he waved back. Good Karma!

We went to Adam & Andrea´s house for a few mintes to relax and sit on their balcony in the sun, then headed to San Telmo, which is an area that has a lot of buskers and antique shops. On the way we also stopped to take some pictures of the presidential palace, La Casa Rosada. It was Sunday so there was a market going on in San Telmo and lots of entertainment. We ate empanadas, which were really good, and then took a cab to the soccer stadium to watch the Boca Juniors play, Adam had bought us tickets to the game. We were almost at the stadium when we had to get out of the cab and walk the rest of the way because the police had blocked the road with a train! We had to climb over the sections in between the train cars to get across. It was very funny. When standing in line, the police on horseback would just walk the horses in the middle of the line to control how far people could go. Good use of resources.

The game was lots of fun, and so much energy. Boca won, 4-0, of course, and is expected to win the championship this weekend. Lincoln was in heaven because he loves soccer (or I should start calling it futbol I suppose).
